Caffeine is your friend

Benefits of Caffeine

Caffeine gets a bad rap. But lately there has been a lot of science to prove that it’s nowhere near as bad as we once thought. Sure, too much of it is bad, but that’s true about most things anyway. Except Star Wars. There can never be too much Star Wars.
The point is, if you’re enjoying a coffee, or an energy drink (a good one like Bang or Celsius, not sugary garbage like Monster) and someone says “oh, that’s not good for you, caffeine is dangerous.” First, slap them in the face and tell them to stop telling you how to live your life. Then, when you’re done with that little fantasy, just hit them with some knowledge instead. With that, here’s a couple benefits:

Caffeine helps to stimulate brain activity. There’s a reason college students pound energy drinks like there’s no tomorrow. It’s not just about staying awake. It’s because the caffeine actually helps the brain to process and store new information. You feel more alert, and feel a need to be productive. Have you ever seen someone drink a coffee, then lay down and do nothing? Because I haven’t.

Caffeine can help reduce the risk of liver fibrosis. A number of studies in the last few years have shown a drastically reduced risk of liver disease in people who generally have a higher consumption rate of caffeine. At first the effects were thought to be based more on coffee and not caffeine exclusively. But more recent studies have shown the latter to be the real reason. Boom! Health stuff, yeah!

Caffeine has been shown to reduce the risk of mouth and throat cancer by 50%. Anything that helps reduce cancer risk is pretty awesome.

Caffeine has been shown to help increase memory retention. A relatively new study out of Johns Hopkins University showed that people who took a 200mg caffeine pill per day had increased memory consolidation. So if you keep forgetting stuff, just jack up on caffeine and you’ll be good!😂

Here’s an interesting one. A few years ago, a HUGE study was conducted (over 200,000 people) and the results showed that people who consumed at least 100mg of caffeine per day had significantly less kidney stone formation than those that didn’t take in any caffeine. The main reason being that caffeine makes urine more dilute. I’ve never had a kidney stone, but I’ve heard stories. If caffeine will keep them at bay, then I’ll keep drinking.

Various studies over the years have shown that people who take in caffeine from any source are at a decreased risk of suicide. Probably just because caffeine is a wonderful happy product and makes everyone feel better.

Caffeine has also been shown to reduce post workout muscle soreness by almost 50%.

Do you have asthma? Bronchitis symptoms? Drink some caffeine. A link has been shown in the reduction of asthmatic and bronchitis symptoms for people who drink regular amounts of caffeine. Even more interesting was the study that showed an almost immediate response in people having asthmatic symptoms who were given caffeine in liquid form.

The point is, caffeine is not the dangerous monster that some people try to say it is. Yes it can be bad if you drink a ton of it, maybe don’t have 500mg per day, but in the correct dosage, caffeine can have some really great health benefits. Plus, like I said before, it’s just a happy happy thing. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go grab myself some of that sweet, sweet nectar of life, my friend and yours, CAFFEINE!

Until next time:
Enjoy life. Just remember to work it off the next day.
